ANDRÁS JOSEF GYÉKÈNYESI, age 85, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026. András was born on August 15, 1941, in Gyékènyes, Hungary, to Katalin Korcsmár and Gyӧrgy Laszló Gyékènyesi. His journey brought him from Hungary to the United States, where he proudly served in the United States Army and built a life centered around family, community, and helping others. 

András never forgot where he came from. Having experienced the journey of coming to a new country himself, he understood the challenges faced by those seeking a new beginning. He generously sponsored other immigrants who wished to come to the United States, helping them build new lives and opportunities of their own. His willingness to open doors for others was an important part of his legacy.

He was a devoted father and grandfather who took great pride in his family. He found joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow and remained deeply connected to his Hungarian heritage. He also had a lifelong love of futball (soccer), a passion that brought him many years of enjoyment both as a player and a fan.

András is survived by his children, Jamie Vilcheck (Christine) and Heather Gyékènyesi (Benjamin); and his grandchildren, Aurora Coffaro (Dustin), Reese Vilcheck, and Avery Vilcheck; and great-grandson Abram Monro. He is also survived by his siblings, János Palko and Katherine; and  numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He also leaves behind his best friend and former wife, Alexandra Pittaway (Harald), with whom he shared a lasting friendship and special bond throughout the years. He was preceded in death by his parents Katalin Korcsmár and Gyӧrgy Laszló Gyékènyesi and his brother, Gyӧrgy. 

András leaves behind more than a family; he leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, generosity, and opportunity. The lives he touched—including those of people he helped make a new beginning in America—are part of the story he leaves behind. 

He will be deeply missed by his family, his friends, and all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, the people he helped, and the many lives he touched along the way.

Rest in peace, Dad. You will always be loved, and your story will always be a part of ours.
