BRIAN ROY WEST in his 67th year has left us suddenly. Having lost his brother and best friend a mere 5 and 1/2 months prior- Brian's heart simply gave out.
He is survived by his sisters Vicki Loeffler (John), Susan Shurtz (Delon), Elizabeth (Beth) Holthe (Leo), Christine and brothers Roy (Shannon), Paul (Mary), Nathan (Ryan) (Tracy) and Aaron ( Maggie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
He had a special relationship with his brother Steve, almost inseparable, that carried over into his relationship with Steve’s daughter Deanna. He could not have loved her more had she been his own child. The three of them spent a great deal of time doing things together, celebrating life and just enjoying one another's company-including continuing the tradition of horse back riding that Steve and Brian did together throughout their life.
Brian attended North Olmsted High School graduating in 1976, he later attended Kent State University and finally finished his college education back up in Cleveland, years later for business management.
Brian had a true passion for his work- a bartender at heart, with a dedication to his family and friends. He spent his life doing what he loved at The Turkey Ridge, Dick’s Last Resort and most recently, The Parma Tavern. Brian was a natural people-person and those who knew him couldn’t help but love him. His coworkers remember him not only for his signature last call, but for his quick wit and ability to bring an entire room into laughter.
Music was Brian’s soul. With an eclectic taste that spanned all genres, he often took on the role of music curator wherever he worked, shaping the atmosphere as much through sound as he did through spirit. He attended the New Orleans Jazz Fest for several years and built connections with a wide and diverse community of bands and artists, especially within the Cleveland music scene. For Brian, music wasn’t just something to listen to- it was something to share, celebrate, and bring people together.
Brian was a devoted friend and passionate about the world that we lived in, constantly trying to uplift spirits and enjoy the thrill of life. He will be deeply missed. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
