Conrad
Waszak
December 24, 1935 – December 3, 2022
CONRAD CHARLES WASZAK , 86, died in his sleep on December 3, 2022. Born the first of three children of Charles and Charlotte Waszak on Christmas Eve 1935 in Cleveland, OH, Conrad graduated from Garfield Heights High School in 1953. Later he volunteered and enlisted in the United States Army, where he served overseas with the 183rd Company of the Army Security Agency in Germany. Shortly after his honorable discharge, Conrad continued his career in intelligence with the National Security Agency in Ft. Meade, MD, and he and his family served overseas with assignments in Turkey, Germany, and England, until returning to Severna Park, MD in 1979. A modest and unassuming man, during the height of the Cold War he fought on the airwaves as a practitioner within the discipline of signals intelligence. He retired from the National Security Agency in 1990, and in 1994, he and his beloved wife Frances returned to Ohio, maintaining a home in Brecksville while Conrad worked for the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA).
Conrad was an amateur "ham" radio operator with callsign KU3Q, and relished the challenge of speaking to other operators from all over the world. He also enjoyed researching family history and genealogy, including a 2014 trip to Poznan, Poland. Conrad enjoyed a quick wit and keen sense of humor regarding the inefficiencies of bureaucracy. He loved languages, especially German, crossword puzzles, and all types of literature.
Conrad's survivors include his wife of over 59 years, Frances Waszak (nee Morris), originally of Swansea, Wales in the United Kingdom, as well as his two sons, Thomas (Mirasol) Waszak of Seattle, WA and John (Elizabeth) Waszak of Brewster, NY, and his three grand-children, Owain, Emily, and Andrew. Conrad is further survived by his sister, Margaret (Ronald) Beckler of Valley City, OH and brother Ralph (Donna) Waszak, Sr. of Richfield, OH.
