DENISE CROMPTON NICE , (nee Marie Crompton), was born October 10, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to James Crompton and Dorothy Crompton (nee Bartunek).  Her father died in a motor vehicle accident when Denise was only 18 months old in April of 1954.  She was raised by her mother and grandmother in their home near the Slavic Village area of Cleveland and then graduated from Holy Name High School (Class of '70). She then attended Bowling Green State University but left when she lost her mother to lung cancer in 1973.

Denise enjoyed travelling, and embarked on experiences across the United States, including Colorado and California.  She eventually returned to the Cleveland area, working in several fields, including volunteering for the Cleveland Free Clinic, and working for the Cleveland Visiting Nurse Association. She eventually settled into a career in Real Estate, which she practiced until retirement. In 1987, she married James Nice, and they would be together for almost 30 years until his death in May of 2016.

The two of them loved working together, quiet time at home, and any time they could get camping in the many beautiful parks surrounding the Pymatuning Reservoir on the Ohio/Pennsylvania border.  She also loved singing and was a part of multiple choir groups over the years.  Following retirement, she stepped into the role of caretaker for multiple friends as they struggled through terminal illnesses and hardship, working to ease their suffering and give them peace of mind.

Denise peacefully passed away the evening of December 24, 2022, at the age of 70.  She is survived by her stepson Jesse.  In lieu of flowers, if a contribution is desired to be made, the family suggests that donations in her name be directed towards the Cleveland Free Clinic (now Circle Health Services ) or Holy Name High School .
