Obituary

EVELYN C. MARUNA, (nee Hanus), age 100. Beloved wife of the late Stanley F.; loving mother of Jeffrey (Kathleen), Russell (Patricia), and Sidney (Marlene); cherished grandmother of Gregory (Billi-Jo), Judy Lynn, Rachael Guyer (Brandon), Zachary, Matthew (Martha), and Melissa Beck (Sean); great-grandmother of Samuel, Alexander, and Evelyn Beck; dear sister of the following deceased: Edwin, George, Frank, and Robert Hanus; dearest aunt and great-aunt of many. As a youth, Evelyn was an avid reader who developed a lifelong love of learning. She became an accomplished musician, forming her own instrumental group. During the 1950s, Evelyn was an energetic activist for women's employment equality and an early advocate for racial diversity and religious ecumenism. She pursued a successful career, performing a wide range of duties for the U.S. Postal Service. Upon retirement, Evelyn was a proud volunteer at Marymount Hospital, contributing more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service. She also provided volunteer secretarial services for the Garfield Heights Homeowner's Association and the Blue Star Mothers. Above all, Evelyn cherished her family and all aspects of family life. The family suggests contributions to St. Therese Church, 5276 E. 105th St., Garfield Hts., 44125, or Akron General Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service, 1 Akron General Ave., Akron, 44307. Friends are asked to meet at St. Therese Church, corner of E. 105th St. and Granger Rd., Saturday, October 17 for VISITATION 9:15-10:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM.
