GREGORY J. SHERRY
It is with profound sadness that our family announces the passing of Gregory James Sherry, 60, who died peacefully Wednesday, April 21, surrounded by family after a courageous battle against cancer.
Born on July 29, 1960, Greg is the beloved husband of nearly 25 years to Andrea (nee Chappen) and loving father of two sons, Alex and Nathan. He is the cherished son of James, who preceded him in death, and Eleanor Sherry, and the dearest brother of Lynn Figaro (Joseph) and Lisa Powers (Patrick). Greg also is the loved son-in-law of Alex (deceased) and Beverly Chappen, and brother-in-law of Craig Chappen (Pat) and Tina Smith-Chappen (Jim); devoted uncle of Michael, Mark, Caitlin, Jimmy, Noelle, Nichole and Katie. Greg is also survived by many aunts and uncles, as well as cousins.
Greg grew up on the West Side of Cleveland and graduated from Lincoln-West High School in 1978. Greg had an adventurous spirit, taking up activities such as boating, water skiing, scuba diving and downhill skiing, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. As a project manager/estimator, Greg had a tremendous work ethic and was employed by Signal Service for 39 years until his passing. He also enjoyed the time he spent with both of his sons as members of the Native Sons and Daughters, hiking and having fun with his children in the great outdoors.
He loved to build things and was a skilled craftsman. He was innovative and a problem-solver, creating solutions for various challenges he and his family encountered in daily life. From the renovation of his house to go-carts to a secret room that opened through a bookshelf, Greg had a calculating mind for construction, invention and whimsy.
Greg will be remembered not only for his calm demeanor, but also his dry sense of humor and witty one-liners. He leaves behind many special memories and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his family and friends. Greg is at peace and resting comfortably in the knowledge that he is deeply loved.
