Allen Gilson
January 11, 1968 – December 22, 2020
JAMES ALLEN GILSON (AL), 52 years old of Medina, Ohio went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2020, with his loving wife of 28 years, Tara (Turman) and two sons Karson and Keaton by his side at Cleveland Clinic ICU. Al battled and beat cancer three times in his life at the ages of 18, 24, and 46. Al suffered a stroke in 2014, which left him paralyzed. Al's wife, Tara was his caregiver for the past six years while he was bedfast. Al had unconditional love for his family, faith, and life.
Al grew up in South Whitley, IN and graduated from Whitko High School in 1987. Al was employed by G.W. Berkheimer since 1988. Al married Tara in 1992. Al's career took his family from South Whitley, IN to Crystal Lake, IL. Al was active as a youth coach, Boy Scout Leader, and Knights of Columbus. Al was an avid sports fan and a true Chicago Cubs fan who enjoyed watching the games. He enjoyed being with his family and friends, family vacations, golfing, playing baseball and tennis. Al and his family moved to Medina, OH to be near family. Al was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Al is survived by his wife, Tara, his twin sons, Karson and Keaton, his parents Bruce and Kay, his twin brother Don (Beth), and his sister Jeni (Tim) Porter, and five nephews and nieces; Trent, Tori, Olivia, Reid, and Collins, sister in law Shannon (Phil) Hogan and father in law, Robert Turman; he was preceded in death by his mother in law, Susan Turman. May we all seek to have the love, strength, and compassion that Al possessed.
A viewing will be held on December 28 th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 606 E. Washington St., Medina, Ohio 44256 from 10:00am-11:00am. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00am. Donations will be dispersed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and several other organizations according to Al's wishes.
