Obituary

Lydia Catherine Colson, (nee Venturini) was born September 1, 1926 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and attended the French Lycee there.  After WWII she accepted a position as Governess in Brussels, Belgium where she met her late husband Julien Colson to whom she was married for 45 years.  They emigrated to Canada in 1956 then immigrated to the United States in 1957.  Lydia attended Case Western Reserve University and earned her Doctorate in French in 1970.  She was employed at Hiram College from 1962 to 1969 and subsequently headed the German Department at Cuyahoga Community College from 1969 to 1999 when she retired.  In 1975, Dr. Colson was one of only 22 professors from across the U.S. chosen to attend a six weeks seminar in Cairo, Egypt under the auspices of the U. S. State Department and sponsored by the League for Innovation in Junior Colleges.  This was one of many trips she took throughout Africa and Europe as an educator either to attend Seminars or to lecture under sponsorships of French, German and Austrian Governments.  Lydia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.   She is survived by her daughters Viviane (Richard) Buchanan, Michele (Douglas) Gormley, Marcella (Marek) Wojcik, 5 Grandchildren Taryn, Stephanie (Tyler), Catherine, Alexander, Lauren and 4 Great Grandchildren Gabriella, Liam, Zachary and Oscar.  Additionally, a niece Lydia (Mark) and her sister-in-law Marcelle Venturini of Lancaster, CA.  She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Julien A. Colson, and her brother, Theodore Venturini.  Friends may call at LATEK & RYBICKI, A GOLDEN RULE FUNERAL HOME, 7906 BROADVIEW RD. (corner of Broadview and Sprague Rds.) for VISITING HOURS:  THURSDAY, OCT. 1st FROM 4-6 PM .  Funeral Mass of Christian Burial on October 2nd at 2:00 pm, St. Basil Catholic Church, 8700 Brecksville Road, Brecksville, OH.  Interment All Saints Cemetery.   Occupancy restrictions, masks and social distancing will be required at funeral home and church. Contributions in memory of Dr. Lydia Colson can be made payable to the Cuyahoga Community College Foundation in support of the Robert L.
