LYLE EDWARD GLEASON , age 83. Beloved husband of Penelope R. (nee Lewis) for 60 years; loving father of Susan Leslie (Yani) and Edward T. (Angelita); grandfather of nine: Degen, Shaiming, Eladia, Oliana, Juliana, Ina, Mignonette, Jonah, and Callea. Lyle is also survived by six brothers and sisters: Roy, Noel, Margaret, Donald, James, and Jane, many of their spouses, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Caroline, father Lester, stepmother Frances, sister Carol, and aunt and uncle Lillian and Barney.
He was educated at Northfield-Macedonia High School, Fenn College, where he pledged the Lambda Tau Delta fraternity, and Columbia University, School of Business in preparation for a career in accounting, many years of which were in public service with non-profit organizations including the Fairhill Center on Aging, and the Heights Public Library system for 14 years. He served as a Lieutenant and flight navigator for the United States Navy in the early 1960s. Lyle enjoyed playing the clarinet and oboe, bicycling, and had a long-standing interest in the development of computers. He learned to pilot small planes, and for many years he and Penny have been avid sailors as members of the Forest City Yacht Club.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. All are invited to celebrate his life with a gift to the charity of your choice.
