Marguerite A
Poje
December 3, 1929 – September 5, 2023
MARGUERITE A. POJE , (nee Magaraci), age 93, passed away September 5, 2023. Born December 3, 1929, in Altoona, Pennsylvania, Marguerite graduated in 1947 from Altoona Area High School. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio three years after marrying the late Richard J. Poje, Sr. in 1951. Since 1966 she resided in Elyria, Ohio and became a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Davidson and Kathleen Bramwell; sons, Richard Poje, Jr. (Tiffany) and Terence Poje; grandchildren Shannon Latek (Joe), and Brittany Wishart (Jon), and great-grandchildren Alexis and Luke Latek, and Grayson Wishart. She was preceded in death by her former husband Richard, Sr., and parents, Francesco and Palma Rose Magaraci (nee Raneri), and her five siblings: Josephine Mannino, John Magaraci, Samuel Magaraci, Anthony Magaraci and Florine Grant, and sons-in-law Roger Davidson and Gordon Bramwell.
Marguerite cherished the time spent with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, never relinquishing her role as fiery matriarch, teacher, and enforcer of the Golden Rule. She was an ardent believer in the value of an education – and Chief Storyteller of her Sicilian parents' and siblings' lives, Depression-era upbringing, and memories of wartime and the best of times. "Silver and gold will vanish away, but a good education will never decay," is just one of many truths that echoed through three generations of her family for more than 70 years. "Don't overdo," was also heard often, accompanied by a firm look, as a reminder to stay focused on what it means to live well, be a good person, and achieve true happiness in life and love.
The family will receive friends on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, from 1:00-3:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM at the MISENCIK FUNERAL HOME, 36363 Detroit Rd., Avon. A 10:30 AM Mass will be celebrated on Friday, September 15, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION ON POPLAR STREET) followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Donations in Marguerite Poje's name can be made to the Elyria Catholic High School Endowment Foundation , 725 Gulf Rd., Elyria, OH 44035.
