Obituary

MICHAEL A. PROROCK , passed away September 1, 2022.  Beloved husband of the late Eleanore (nee Lescinski); loving father of Michael (Kathleen) Prorock, Leonard (Yvette) Prorock, and Eleanore Prorock Domek; dear grandfather of Jessica (Fernando Lopez), Nicole, and Katelyn; cherished brother of Helen (the late John) Persley; devoted uncle of John and Susan Persley.
Born in Dickson City (suburb of Scranton, PA) he enjoyed a childhood of picking wild-blueberries in the nearby hills and being big brother to his sister (Helen). He was a very successful high school pitcher, who due to WWII was denied his senior year because he turned 18 and enlisted into the Army Air Core (Air Force). Having a boyhood interest in flying he was trained as a "crew chief" airplane mechanic. He was then sent to the Pacific with the Air Force and stationed on Okinawa. After the war he returned to NYC where he trained and was federally licensed as an aircraft engine mechanic.
Meeting his future wife at a friend's wedding, he moved to Cleveland, married Eleanore in 1952, settled into their home in Garfield Heights where they raised a family and Mike and Eleanore enjoyed married life for over 50 years. He happily lived there until earlier this year.
Trained as a Mechanical Engineer, he was employed by Tapco (the predecessor to TRW), then later worked for Alcoa. He was multi certified in mechanical-electrical-structural applications. As such he took on all home and car repairs with enthusiasm and success. He fixed everything.
He was a loving, guiding father to his children, always offering his support. He was proud of their success and occupations. Later, he enjoyed his granddaughters, who were lucky to share his love and story-telling and wisdom that only a grandparent can offer.  A friend invited him to a fishing cabin in Picton Ontario in the mid 1960's and for the next almost fifty years the annual vacation destination was set. Relatives and friends and later grandchildren soon made the trek to the cabins. His home bordered Garfield Park and he enjoyed gardening and campfires in his backyard. He hand fed deer in his backyard.
He was always proud of his service in the Air Force.  He joined and became active in the VFW, serving as an officer and enjoying his comrades. He was lucky to have been part of the Honor Flights given to vets to visit Washington DC. He visited the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio for several multi-day visits over the last twenty years. He proudly wore his 8th Air Force cap daily.
