Mike
Nisiewicz
July 13, 1927 – February 19, 2019
MIKE "MIKOLAJ" NISIEWICZ , age 91. Faithful husband of 62 years to Helen whom she affectionately called "Papou"; loving uncle of Mireille (Michael) and Edward (Susan), and his loving nieces and their families in Massachusetts and Poland, whom they affectionately called "Wuja"; cherished great-uncle and great-great-uncle of many. Mike was born in Dobra, Poland. He survived bombings in Poland and was shot while serving in the Polish Guards Company of the U.S. Army where the bullet was lodged in his leg and never removed. The bullet reminded him of what he had survived. One day he decided to go to a dance in Coueron, France with his friends. There he met the love of his life, Helen. He wanted to dance with her (she was not too sure) and told her that he wanted to meet her parents. He knew she was the one and he wanted to take her to America. He met her parents on the following Sunday, they got married within three months, and they were traveling to their new home in the United States where they would spend the next six decades together. They arrived in Cleveland, Ohio and it was the only place they would call home. Mike worked at the Plain Dealer for over 25 years. He will be remembered as a quiet and gentle person who loved his wife and family, a wonderful husband, a great soccer and table tennis player, worked on creating beautiful puzzles, loved the outdoors and read his Bible every day. Helen and the family would like to thank Minna for being a wonderful neighbor. Family suggests contributions to Holy Family Hospice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or American Stroke Association.
