Obituary

SALVO T. SIMON. Our beloved father passed away peacefully on July 15, 2024, surrounded by his family, both near and far. He was 102 years old. Beloved husband of the late Inibig (nee Kasiguran); loving Tatay of Ellen Atkinson (Bill), Bessie Escondo (Franco-deceased), Edgar (Mila), Marlene Bautista (Arnold), and Rosanna Bautista (Gerry); cherished Lolo of Katie (John), Tom, Jonathan (Ellah), Kristina (Patrick), Tim (Jessica), Becki, Michael (Julie), Nick, Kathleen, Adam, Angela (EJ), and Josh; devoted great-grandfather of seven.

Salvo was born in Cavite, Philippines on January 11, 1922. He was a man with immense love for God and his family. Salvo grew up in humble beginnings, having to rely on a friend's generosity to support him through college. Unfortunately, he was 1 year short of completing his Engineering degree. Instead, he taught himself how to sew by watching tailors through a glass window of a tailor shop and running back home to practice. This became his lifelong trade - tailoring.

Salvo met his future wife, Inibig, a pastor's daughter, through a friend. One of Salvo's friends had asked him to write love letters for him to Inibig. In the end, Inibig figured out who was really writing the love letters and they ended up falling in love with each other and got married. Nanay  (Mom) gave him a Bible as a wedding present.

In his 30's, Salvo accepted Christ as his Savior during an altar call at Knox United Methodist Church in Manila… and never looked back. From this point on, he dedicated his life in growing his faith and instilling that faith to his family and anyone who would listen. He became a member of the organization called "Navigators". Its mission is to spread the gospel and help others know Jesus. He was one of the counselors when Billy Graham would come to Manila. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church for most of his life and participated in various discipleship ministries of the church. He taught Sunday School and led a Bible Study group for many years. As part of his ministry, he also gave
tailoring lessons to residents of a small community in Cainta, Rizal to help the residents earn a living with this trade.

Salvo started his ministry with his family. He vowed to attend church every Sunday and impressed that to his children. His strong faith was witnessed by us through his constant studying of the Bible, passionate prayers, and welcoming spirit. He prayed continually. We know, because we could hear him or he would write down his prayers. And he prayed, always, for his children and grandchildren. He was a doting father and grandfather, and he was always proud of us.

Although we are deeply saddened of his passing, we celebrate his life and rejoice with him as we know he is immensely happy now that he is finally home with God. He will be missed so much, but he left us with hope and faith that we will see him again. Until then, 'Tay …. Thank you for everything. We love you so much.
