Walter A.
Zielinski
January 6, 1961 – November 26, 2020
WALTER "WALLY" ZIELINSKI , age 59, was at home when he peacefully passed away to join his father Frank, mother Helen, and sister Katharyn on Thanksgiving Day. Wally leaves behind his wife and best friend Kathy (nee Nowicki), his wonderful daughter Veronica, his very special son Frankie, as well as his loving brother Frank Jr. (Marcia) and many relatives and friends. By his own admission, Wally led a charmed life that included being a player, manager, and board member for the Garfield Heights Baseball League, earning a lifetime achievement award, a CYO and high school coach, basketball referee for 26 years, owner of the Friendly Inn for 23 years, and a dealer at the Horseshoe/Jack Casino. Wally will be remembered for his quick wit, storytelling, love of sports, and his knowledge of all things important and trivial. We are very grateful to the research team at the UH Seidman Cancer Center. Their clinical trials tripled the time that Wally spent with his family and friends. Wally attended baseball games across the country, played countless rounds of golf, and he met his childhood hero, Pete Rose, as he recently celebrated his wedding anniversary in Las Vegas. Wally took his treatments in stride and was happy to know that his involvement in the trials may help others afflicted with similar cancers in the future. A mass and celebration of Wally's memorable life will take place when the pandemic subsides to share stores and have a few beers in his honor.
